Storied Jazz Pianist and Composer celebrates the 50th Anniversary of The Stonewall Riots in NYC

Presented in collaboration with Saratoga Performing Arts CenterVIDEOA select member of jazz’s piano pantheon, Fred Hersch is a pervasively influential creative force who has shaped the music’s course over more than three decades as an improviser, composer, educator, bandleader, collaborator and recording artist. Times, and “a living legend” byThe New Yorker.Tonight's performance will kick off Saratoga Performing Arts Center's Jazz Fest and pay homage to The Stonewall Riots, which occurred on June 28, 1969, and are considered the most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for LGBTQIA+ rights in United States. Fred Hersch, the first openly gay, HIV-positive jazz player, will perform original works in addition to pieces by famed pianists, while also providing commentary on how the Stonewall Riots shaped him, his jazz career and his growth as a musician, drawing from his memoir Good Things Happen Slowly.

2nd Annual WASS Sleep Out!

Wass sleepout.jpg

Whispering Angels of Saratoga Springs (WASS) will host its 2nd Annual Sleep Out in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, April 6th 2019 to raise important funding and increase awareness of at-risk and homeless LGBTQ youth in the Saratoga Springs, Southern Adirondacks and Capital Region areas. The event will be hosted in the backyard of a private residence in Saratoga Springs with the capacity to host forty people committed to sleep outside.

Each person sleeping outdoors will be raising money with their efforts. A pre-sleep out rally will take place first that evening to raise more funds and wish the sleep-outers the best of luck.
